Harrah's Steak House Review

In a fine dining restaurant you expect the extra ordinary, something special, sparkly, refreshing, something with a flare. You have high expectations, you want the whole experience to be memorable. Harrah's Steak House has a special feature no other steak house has, Chef Marti Cerrito, and she is all of the above.

From the moment we walked in and were so graciously greeted we knew this dining experience was going to be enjoyable. The atmosphere in the room was unlike most fine dining establishments. There was laughter, hugs, friendly conversation, for a moment I thought I was in a family restaurant in a small town. We were at Chef Marti's. The atmosphere is friendly and no one is a stranger.
Immediately you can sense everyone wants to be there, from the staff to the patrons. Chef Marti's love of cooking flows thru her creations. She puts her heart into her job and she wants you happy. We were impressed with the personal attention Chef Marti makes time to give her patrons.

Many of the fine dining places in casinos now days are cookie cutter places, like McDonald's all corporate recipes and menus, not Harrah's Tunica. Chef Marti has full reign to create and present her own signature dishes. For the patron, this is a major plus to your dining experience. Before dinner we enjoyed a delicious Apple Martini for me and a Gimlet for Tom.
Followed by a white wine as we shared an appetizer - Portabello Cerrito - Grilled Portabello Mushroom Cap topped with Maytag Blue Cheese, diced tomatoes, served with tender spinach greens to the side. Seasoned to perfection. The delightful combination is a treat to the taste buds. Superb.

Next came one of the best salads ever, Salad of Toasted Nuts - Wild mixed tender young greens tossed with toasted almonds, pecans, dried cranberries, with chunks of Buffalo Mozzarella cheese and Balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Each bite has it's own unique taste bursting with flavor. The serving size is quite large and is recommended you share this salad if you are ordering dinner, even if you don't want to share.

Choice of entrees was difficult, which makes for a return visit soon. Tom had the New York Strip served with Fries, fresh sautéed vegetables and mushrooms. Steak was unbelievably tender and cooked to perfection.

When I was ordering it was hard to pass up the Cornish Hens for the Lobster Tail but I did. An 8 oz Lobster Tail served with mashed garlic potatoes, grilled vegetables and drawn butter. I mentioned to Teresa Looney, our server, I would like something different for potato. Quickly Chef Marti appeared from the kitchen and asked if I would like to try her scalloped potatoes. Yes, was the wise decision. Oh my, I now have a new favorite potato dish. A definite must order when we return.

Chef Marti has a talent for combining different flavors with a fantastic end result. For dessert we had Pears Cerrito. Pear halves served with vanilla ice cream topped with a pecan sauce. Chef Marti has shared this recipe with us and can be found on the website here under Chef's Corner. Try it. You will like it.
