Kristyn, Kelsi and Kassidy Osborn were raised near Magna, Utah, a town outside Salt Lake City. (The name SHeDAISY was taken from a Native American word meaning "my sisters.") Their mother taught them harmony singing to the albums playing in the family car, and the varying sounds became part of their musical style. At 12, Kristyn went to an Alabama concert and bought a Restless Heart album, and country began staking its claim on all three. Their neighbors still talk about buying tickets for the shows they put on as young girls in the neighborhood. Later Kelsi and Kassidy began singing duets at retirement homes and country fairs. By the time Kristyn graduated from high school, the trio was complete. They played gigs in the Salt Lake area and the western U.S., eventually performing the national anthem at Utah Jazz NBA games. They ultimately moved to Nashville to pursue a record deal. With one car between them, they worked similar shifts at three different department stores and used the bulk of their time to record and play showcases. After several years of false starts, disappointments and struggles, SHeDAISY finally landed a deal with Lyric Street Records. Heavily produced and geared toward young women, their debut album, The Whole SHeBANG, sold nearly two million copies and launched four hit singles, “Little Good-Byes,” “This Woman Needs,” “I Will…But” and “Lucky 4 You (Tonight I’m Just Me).” When a follow-up album, 2002’s Knock on the Sky, failed to match its predecessor’s success, the sisters had to re-evaluate everything. “We learned a lot emotionally as well as professionally, “says Kristin. “We learned that it’s more important to showcase a song than a record and I’m not sure we realized that before.” The songs on their newest album, Sweet Right Here, have a fresh, acoustic vibe – proof that SHeDAISY has been re-energized. The trio’s trademark vocals are in tact, but there’s more three-part harmony and less complex counterpoint. “We kept things simple,” says Kassidy. The Osborn sisters say that they’ve learned from their experiences. They’re upbeat and they have a renewed sense of purpose and passion. Their decisions have led them to this point, and, looking in the rear-view mirror now serves no point. So no matter what happens, SHeDAISY knows and embraces whatever stands before them because right now all truly is Sweet Right Here.
