JACK MORGAN AND THE RUSS MORGAN ORCHESTRA Back in the thirties and forties, “Music in the Morgan Manner” was heard in millions of homes through the wonderful medium of radio. Whether it was from the Biltmore Hotel in New York, the Edgewater Beach Hotel, the Aragon and Trianon Ballrooms in Chicago, the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles or the Hollywood Palladium, it was “Music in the Morgan Manner” with Russ Morgan, his “wah wah” trombone and his orchestra. Following in his father’s footsteps, Jack Morgan began playing the trombone when he was thirteen years old. Being the son of a famous bandleader, he traveled all over the country before the family finally settled in Beverly Hills, California. As an active member of the Beverly Hills High School orchestra for four years, Morgan formed a group to play local dances. Morgan, a member of the American Federation of Musicians and ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), had several of his songs published. Through the years, he recorded many albums with his father where he played instrumentally and sang. Besides playing trombone and singing, Morgan also does vocal arrangements for the orchestra. He sings in several languages. His Spanish vocals have endeared him to fans of Latin music. In addition, Morgan, an outstanding ballroom dancer, has won many awards for his fine performances. This is an important quality in dance music leadership, as Morgan can read at once the tempo and rhythm dancers enjoy most. Morgan and the Orchestra have appeared with and backed such entertainment greats as Bob Hope, Helen O’Connell, Rosemary Clooney, The Modernaires, Roberta Sherwood, Johnnie Ray and Frankie Laine. Today “Music in the Morgan Manner” is playing to more people in more places than ever before under the direction of Jack Morgan. Related Links: |
