TUNICA, MS – October 5, 2006 – Bluesville at Horsesehoe Casino & Hotel rocked 'n' rolled and rhythm-ed 'n' blues-ed when 24 employees of Grand, Horseshoe and Sheraton recently took center stage for one great night of competition – with the chance at $6,000 in total prizes.
Voices soared, piano ivories were tickled, guitars strummed into the night and when the scores were tallied, it was the soulful a cappella rendition of “Summer Time” that had Carolyn Wright “livin' easy” with the grand prize. Wright, a front desk manager at Grand Casino Resort’s Veranda Hotel, said the victory came as a surprise.
“I was seriously shocked to hear my name called,” said Wright. “After seeing one amazing act following another, I didn’t think I had a chance.”
Becca Ashworth took second place for her lively version of “Cabaret.” This former church-group music director turned regional communications administrative assistant said it was thrilling just to take the stage for the more than 700 co-workers, friends and family at Bluesville.
“The crowd was so full of energy and excitement that my pre-performance jitters were gone before I heard the first beat of the music,” said Ashworth.
Third place honors went to Aubrey Boyd, slot floor attendant at the Horseshoe Casino & Hotel, for his audience rousing rendition of “Heaven” an Urban R&B favorite.
