· Click to Listen to Hold On En Vogue went on to enjoy success with “Hold On” and “Lies” in 1990. Their second album, Funky Divas, featured the hit “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” and additional hits “Free Your Mind” and “Give It Up, Turn It Loose.” Heavily influenced by Chaka Khan, En Vogue, in turn, helped to start the “new jill swing” movement, a movement that also included the equally successful SWV, Jade and TLC. Their singing and commercial success continued into the mid-90s, with hits including the Salt-N-Pepa collaboration “Whatta Man” and “Don’t Let Go (Love)” from the move Set It Off. Following a short break from recording, during which Robinson left to pursue a solo career, En Vogue returned with 1997’s Ev3. The album featured the hit “Whatever.” After another extended break, the trio released Masterpiece Theatre. Amanda Cole was added to the line-up in 2001 but shortly afterwards Maxine Jones left, bringing En Vogue back to a trio. Cole left the following summer to take up a solo career. Herron and Ellis carried on, recruiting new member Rhona Bennett for this year’s Soul Flower. Bennett, who had a recurring role on “The Jamie Foxx Show,” is a gifted songwriter that penned Soul Flower’s first single “Ohh Boy.” Though original member Maxine Jones has been busy of late with motherhood, she plans to join the group on its next studio album.
