Strang, a “small town girl” from New Johnsonville, Tennessee, grew up with the Tennessee River for a backyard. She learned as a young child that she would have to be different to get noticed. While her friends were watching Sesame Street, Strang surrounded herself with music. Her family listened to music in their house like most people watch television. By the time she was fourteen, Strang was singing in a band that performed on weekends at Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch in Waverly, Tennessee. Carrie soon caught the attention of the Coal Miner’s Daughter and was invited to open a concert for Lynn at the Grand Ole’ Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee. The minute Folks stepped on stage she knew that music was going to be her life. Upon graduation from high school, Strang entered the University of Tennessee and continued to sing on the weekends to feed her desire to say involved in music. During this time, Strang was crowned “Miss Tennessee” in 1988 and went on to become one of only six talent winners in the Miss America Contest in 1989. Her pageant experience helped refine her presentation and people skills and afforded her a full academic scholarship to attend Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Strang used this time to write songs and improve her studio vocal abilities by singing on numerous songwriter demos. After college, Strang moved to Los Angeles and performed extensively throughout the western United States. She was spotted by casting directors from Buena Vista Television and picked to host the Walt Disney production “Countdown at the Neon Armadillo” television series. While commuting from Los Angeles to Florida to shoot the TV series, many offers for commercials and voice over work came in. After one year, the series ended. Strang put her band back together and resumed her music career opening shows for Chris LeDoux, Johnny Cash, Rick Springfield and many others. Strang made a decision to move back to Nashville to seriously pursue a career in music. Upon arriving in Nashville, Strang performed at Legends and other nightclubs on lower Broadway and was headlining “Wild Wednesdays with Carrie Folks” at the Wildhorse Saloon. Her songwriting began to bear fruit when Arista recording artist Tommy Graham recorded one of her songs, “A Dozen Red Roses”. Strang now has a Top 20 record to add to her accolades. Strang is attracting the attention of major producers and began recording demos to further refine her style and secure a record deal. |
