70’s Soul Jam return to the Grand

Jimmy “JJ” Walker - The term “maximizing one’s potential” could have been coined to describe the life of Jimmie Walker. You know him from the hit comedy show “Good Times”. Walker currently tours the country 25-30 weeks doing his stand-up comedy, and also performs on late night TV and game shows. In his spare time he writes scripts for TV and movies.

The Stylistics - The Stylistics captures the imagination with their first single You’re a Big Girl Now, which immediately became a top-ten hit. With their style and delivery, fans and artists alike were mesmerized. The Stylistics went on to produce 12 consecutive top-ten hits from 1971 - 1974, culminating with their Grammy-Nominated hit, You Make Me Feel Brand New. It seems every song the quintet released, greeted the airwaves with fresh, artistic fervor. Their tempo and style vary with every song. “The Best of the Stylistics” was released in 1975 earning them a double-platinum honor, making it their highest selling album ever. Songs to remember are Heavy, Love Talk and the release of the “Stylistics Christmas.” They continue to perform as they can, bringing with them the sweet, soulful memories of year’s past.

The Chi-Lites - In 1969, The Chi-Lites released their first hit Give it Away. Their prosperity continued in 1971 with the release of Are You My Woman (Tell Me So), the song that started a four-year of top 10 hits. Their politically motivated song, (For God’s Sake) Give More Power To The People was their first true hit. The Chi-Lites recorded five gold LP’s, five gold singles and an astounding 18 top 20 singles. Enjoy the soulful sounds of Have You Seen Her, Oh Girl, Homely Girl, Toby, Hot on a Thing Called Love and Bottom’s Up.

Cuba Gooding Sr. - Former lead singer of The Main Ingredient, Cuba Gooding Sr. will bring to Grand Casino memories of the 1972 release Everybody Plays the Fool, I’m So Proud and Spinning Around. The Main Ingredients had a sweet, suave sound that was associated with the 70’s R&B bands. Gooding will take you back in time with songs from their albums “I Just Wanna Love You” and “Quiet Storm.” Listen as Cuba Gooding Sr. sing the silky smooth melodies of The Main Ingredients guaranteed to mesmerize the audience.

Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes - Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes roots dated back to long before their leap into stardom in the 70’s. Unfortunately, the man most responsible for their success Harold Melvin died in 1997 but his spirit and legacy lives on in the group known today as Harold Melvins’s Blue Notes. They continue to dazzle crowds with the same array of groovy rhythms and soulful ballads that was the foundation of the soul band in 1954. The audience will be afforded the opportunity to hear their top Rhythm & Blues R&B singles such as My Hero, If You Don’t Know Me By Now, The Love I Lost, Where Are All My Friends, Bad Luck, Hope That We Can Be Together Soon, Wake Up Everybody and Reaching For The World.

Ted Wizard Mills - Ted Mills has worked with some of the most successful and influential artists of all time. He is a two-time Ebony Award winner and has been nominated for a Grammy Award for one of the most recognized songs of its time, “Side Show” performed by his group Blue Magic. As a dedicated writer/arranger and vocalist, Ted’s success has been measured by the numerous gold and platinum records. Ted Mills is an accomplished recorder producer who continues to influence music today with his innovative and distractive style. Mills will sing and take you back in time Just Don’t Want To Be Lonely, Spell On My Mind and Stop To Start.
